Wilmington International Airport Awarded $4 Million from the FAA

The Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is pleased to announce the airport received a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Terminal grant award. The Airport Terminals Program was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.  The FAA received 636 applications that totaled over $7 billion in projects for the FY24 Program. Through the competitive grant process, the FAA awarded $970 million in grants to 114 airports across the country.

The $4 million awarded to ILM funds a portion of the terminal access road and terminal curb front expansion and realignment. This award contributes towards ILM’s 5-year $175 million capital program. “On behalf of the Airport Authority I’d like to express our sincere appreciation to our federal legislatures,” stated Spruill Thompson, Chair of the New Hanover Airport Authority.

ILM Airport Director Jeff Bourk shared, “It’s important to fund ILM’s 5-year capital program to ensure the airport keeps up with the record passenger growth we’re experiencing.  We’re proud that the 5-year capital project is funded through federal and state aviation grants and that no loans or local tax dollars are utilized.”

Once complete, the 5-year capital project will replace aging infrastructure, providing better parking and traffic flow, expanding accessibility, as well as creating a more efficient and convenient pick-up and drop-off experience.
