We’re Growing!

Growth is all around us.  Our community’s population is growing.  Passenger travel through ILM is growing.  And air service at ILM is growing, with the addition of new routes and new airlines.  In order to help accommodate the growth, and provide an exceptional airport experience for our customers, the Wilmington International Airport is expanding our terminal.

ILM’s terminal expansion is comprised of three construction phases spanning approximately 4+ years.  Monteith Construction broke ground on the 1st phase this month.  With hammers already swinging, this initial phase will be “behind the scenes” and mostly out of public view, but passengers may notice occasional noise and vibrations as construction continues below the airline ticket counters, preparing the TSA baggage handling system for the 2nd phase.  The 2nd phase will begin in April of 2019 and construction will last about 12 months.  During the second phase, the public will notice construction work as we expand the airline ticket lobby, ticket counters and ticket offices.  Overall, there will be approximately 15,000SF of new space for airline operations and passengers.  The 3rd phase is around the corner and is slated to begin in spring of 2020.  Plans include expanding the TSA checkpoint, adding a new concourse and gate seating, as well as additional restaurant/retail space.

Stay tuned as we expand our terminal to best meet the needs of our growing community, passengers, and air service providers!

The Benefits of TSA PreCheck

One of the most frequent questions from airline passengers is “How early do I need to arrive at the airport before my flight?” It’s a legitimate concern and should be part of the planning checklist for any trip requiring a plane ticket.  With the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays ahead, now is the time to book your flights from Wilmington International Airport (ILM) to your final destination.

While you are thinking ahead and considering how early you may need to get up for an early morning flight at ILM, go ahead and schedule an appointment for your TSA Precheck. The process is quick, easy and worth the investment. For the price of $85, a traveler can have a fast pass ticket for TSA screening during that 5 year time period. That’s the equivalent of just $17 a year! Children under 12 years of age are free to the program if they travel with their parent. Overall, it’s quite a bargain.

In addition to a shorter wait in line, TSA Precheck lanes have streamlined divesting processes.  Passengers can keep their 3oz liquid bottles in their carry on and do not have to take off shoes, light jackets, and hats.  To many, the thought of walking barefoot through a public building is motivation to get Precheck.

How does it work?

  • Pre-enroll online
  • Schedule a 10 minute, in-person appointment that includes a background check and fingerprinting. Wilmington has a local Precheck enrollment center, making it more convenient than ever to get the interview scheduled and completed. It’s located at 2632 Carolina Beach Road in Suite #4.
  • Get a Known Traveler Number (KTN)
  • Use it whenever you book a flight
  • Go into designated TSA Precheck lines at the airport. More than 200 airports and 54 airlines provide TSA Precheck.

So, as you plan your upcoming travel from Wilmington International Airport (via American AirlinesUnited, or Delta) make sure you also apply for TSA Precheck to save time at the airport.

Advertising Special: Effectively Promote Your Business at ILM

Did you know in 2017 alone over 830,000 passengers traveled through Wilmington International Airport? If you’re seeking new advertising options for your business, consider advertising at ILM airport.  Passengers in airports have “dwell times.”  An example of this is when travelers are in the gate area waiting for their flight to board. Or when they are by the baggage carousel while waiting for their luggage to arrive after their flight.  This down time offers a great opportunity for area businesses and organizations to get their message in front of well-educated individuals with disposable income.  Make a positive first and last impression to those traveling through ILM!

ILM offers digital and static advertising options and can create custom packages to meet your needs.  And now, for a limited time ILM is offering first time advertisers 15% off advertising rates!  This special rate is good only until Nov 9th & applies to contracts 6 months or longer.  Mention this new advertiser special when you call.
